Planning to replace your carpet in the new year, but stuck on the best fibers, styles, and designs? We’ve predicted the upcoming 2025 carpet trends – here’s what we expect to see homeowners adopting across the country over the next 12 months.
Is carpet still in style?
Carpet is a flooring option that will never truly go out of style. Although certain styles or colors may reign more popular for certain periods of time, the material as a whole will always be a common choice for interior design.
Since the pandemic, when many people suddenly spent an abundance of time at home, it’s become increasingly important to focus your interior design towards creating a sanctuary, somewhere that your household can truly relax and recuperate from the world around them. This has only increased as the years have passed.
The comfort and aesthetics of carpet create a warm, welcoming feeling that can’t be recreated with hard flooring options. That’s not to say that hard floors are going out of style – these are equally as timeless in their own way, but the popularity of carpet has been steadily increasing, and we expect to see a lot of it in 2025!
Latest carpet trends
Luxury
Relating back to the idea that homeowners are prioritizing comfort within their interior decor, achieving a luxurious look and feel is another way to elevate your home. This doesn’t mean shelling out for the most expensive or sought-after flooring material, but instead finding an option that gives the appeal of luxury.
For synthetic carpet fibers, nylon is regarded as the most luxurious. It’s incredibly comfortable underfoot, and has one of the best durabilities out of all fiber types, meaning it stays looking new for longer.
Sustainability
Choosing sustainable materials has become more prevalent in the interior design world over the past few years, and we don’t see this slowing down in 2025 – homeowners prioritize long-lasting materials with a low environmental impact.
Wool is the most sustainable carpet choice, but can come at a much higher price point than synthetic fibers. Polyester is regarded as the most eco-friendly synthetic option, as all polyester carpets are fully recyclable at the end of use. Some nylon carpets are recyclable, but this varies from product to product, so be sure to do your research if you’re looking for a sustainable nylon option.
Earth tones
As trends steer away from ‘millennial gray’, an interior design style that looks just as it sounds: a mixture of grays, whites, and beiges, neutral shades seem to still be in high popularity. However, instead of opting for monotonal colors, earth tones are taking front and center stage.
‘Earth tones’ refers to any natural, environmental color, like shades of green and brown, but some neutral colors like off-white or subtle shades of pinks, purples, or blues may also be incorporated. Most carpet types are available in a wide array of colors, so you’re likely to find your preferred shade no matter which fiber you choose. It’s worth noting that nylon carpets tend to have a restricted color range compared to other fiber types, however earthy tones are usually still an option.
Layering and mixing textures
Don’t think that just because homeowners are opting for muted, earthy color tones they’re keeping their interior design plain and simple. Trends tend to move on a cycle: the bright, busy, and gaudy trends of the early 2000s faded into the soft, neutral, and plain aesthetic of the mid-to-late-2010s, and we’ve seen this reverting back throughout the 2020s – we think 2025 will be no different.
Although we’re not predicting a complete flip back to clashing color schemes and an abundance of mismatched patterns, we do think that 2025 carpet trends will incorporate more layering, with various textures and colors being used to complement each other, adding a dynamic element to the flooring. This may be in the form of mixing multiple carpet materials, but could also be the combination of textured carpets incorporated alongside smooth flooring materials.
Carpet trends 2025
Carpet can last around 5-15 years, depending on the fiber type, level of foot-traffic, and other lifestyle factors unique to your household, and trends change quickly. Instead of focusing your home interiors purely on the latest trend, it can be more beneficial to assess the current carpet trends and decide whether any resonate with you enough to be applied to your home for the coming years.
It’s also worth noting that there is never one single carpet trend that everyone adopts across the board. The elements discussed above are just our observations of which directions we feel the most common carpet choices in 2025 will sway towards – some homeowners will focus on one of these ideas, others may use multiple to form their interior design plans, and some will completely disregard the most ‘popular’ styles of the year.
Ultimately, the way you design your home is a personal choice, often coming down to preference over the current trendy styles. Each carpet fiber also offers unique advantages and disadvantages, so finding the most suitable fiber for your needs is just as important as its aesthetic appeal.
